After the election the real work begins, it’s not enough to just switch the President, oh I don’t like this one, let’s get us a new one shall we! It doesn’t work that way! We would not be in the mess we are in today, had “We the People,” done our job! Remember America is a Republic, it is a form of government of the people, by the people and for the people and as such, the greatest responsibility falls to us! Yes it falls to “We the People,” it is our great responsibility to keep an eye on our elected officials, to pay attention and watch how they vote, and not just in the House and the Senate, but in local government, where all the bad habits, backroom deals, kickbacks and pandering begins on both sides of the aisle!
Government is defined in the dictionary as follows: “the form or system of rule by which a state, community, etc., is governed.” As such, our Founding Fathers measured political systems in terms of the amount of coercive power or systemic control, which a particular system of government exercises over its people. In other words government is measured not by political parties, left, or right, but rather by Political Power. And it is with this in mind that our Founding Fathers considered two extremes, at one end was anarchy at the other end was tyranny. With anarchy there is no law, no government, no systemic control, while at the opposite end of this spectrum is too much government, too much control, too much political oppression which our Founding Fathers called tyranny.
It’s time to change the conversation in America it’s time to get back to our roots as a country, to bring the conversation back to the opportunities this great nation was founded upon, like FREEDOM! The opportunity to pursue Life, Liberty and Happiness! Our Founding Fathers believed in economic opportunity, for everyone, they believed in a system of government where the government is kept under the control of the people and that political power was balanced in the center with just enough government to keep us safe, to provide justice for all and maintain good order – but not too much government to abuse the people!
Here’s a novel idea, a concept maybe it’s not about finding the next George Washington, or the next Ronald Reagan, maybe it begins with the person in the mirror. Maybe we need to study the character of our Founding Fathers, the character of George Washington and Ronald Reagan? Maybe it’s about sitting down and thinking about what it is we as individuals believe in – Do we believe in backroom deals? Do we believe in Czars telling us what to do, how to live? Do we believe in all these Executive Orders? Do we believe in big government, the nanny state; the police state where we are told what to purchase, where to live, what to drive, the size of soda we can drink, where to go to school, what to study? Do we believe that someone a little smarter than us, a little more virtuous than us, gets to tell us what to do? Really – is that who Americans are, is that the type of people we are?
So maybe, just maybe turning this country around, fixing our Republic rests with “We the People,” maybe it’s each of us getting off the couch and becoming engaged, becoming good citizens that will begin the change we want to see for our country. Each of us must be willing to take responsibility, to take up the torch of Freedom, and when we get tired, and we will get tired, and when we are tested to our very core remember these words from George Washington’s Farewell Address to the Nation:
“The unity of government…is a main pillar in the edifice of your real independence…of your tranquility at home, your peace abroad; of your safety; of your prosperity; of that very liberty which you so highly prize.”
What we chose on Tuesday will be passed onto our children, and our grandchildren. We are living in history, we are writing history. What are we going to choose? Will it be greatness or will it be mediocrity, commonplace? This is a choice between returning to our roots, where it all began, and walking that path, or we remain on the path we are currently on, and become a nation of mediocrity a nation on the path toward tyranny and totalitarianism.
Make no mistake, like our Founding Fathers before us, the world is watching; as they watched our Founding Fathers, they are watching to see which path America will choose – watching to see if America will continue to be the last Great hope on the face of the earth. You see my fellow countrymen/women, to the rest of the world; America is seen as a nation of courage, liberation, strength, virtue, honor and freedom.
So our choice on Tuesday is honor and courage, our choice is virtue and greatness, our choice is freedom and liberty and come Wednesday morning, the hard work of restoration begins as we reaffirm the American Dream – “Let us behave like people determined to be Free!”
